Christianshavns Vold | Bastioner & Kulturelle Aktiviteter i København
Description:
Christianshavns Vold was part of Copenhagen's fortifications, built by Christian IV in the early 17th century to protect against attacks from Amager. The ramparts consisted of an earthen rampart with bastions and a moat, Stadsgraven, which is now a canal separating Christianshavn from Amager. The rampart was expanded in the 1670s and 1680s to protect Holmen, and the last expansion took place in 1878-1882. Today, Christianshavns Vold is a green area, where the southern part is a park, and the northern part houses Christiania. The bastions are now used for cultural activities and exhibitions.
