Description:
Parking: To reach Esterhøjstenen, you must follow the marked path Højderygstien from the car park at Høvevej 57 (150 m). Introduction: Discover the enchanting viewpoint at Esterhøj in Odsherred! The Esterhøj Stone, also known as the Reunification Stone, was originally located on the beach below Høve Skov, but was placed on Esterhøj in 1920 to celebrate the reunification of parts of Southern Jutland with Denmark after a 56-year absence. The stone weighs an estimated 25 tons, and it took 14 days for 500 men and 22 horses to drag it on a block wagon through the forest, up through Høve Stræde and up onto the hill, which is 85 meters above sea level. Geopark Odsherred: Geopark Odsherred has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List due to its unique geological and cultural historical significance. The area represents an example of Ice Age landscapes and includes the dammed Lammefjord, which has been crucial for human settlement and activity over the centuries. Odsherred's geological formations and landscapes provide a deep insight into the history of the Earth and its influence on life in the region. The placement on the UNESCO World Heritage List recognizes Geopark Odsherred's unique natural heritage and its importance as a cultural and scientific treasure trove.
