Fredericia Fæstning 1849 | Udfaldet, Treårskrigen & Historiske Vold
Description:
The fallout from Fredericia took place during the Three Years' War (1848-1850), when the Schleswig-Holstein army besieged Fredericia. The Prussian army under Lieutenant General Prittwitz was drawn up in Jutland with around 22,000 men, while Major General de Meza faced approx. 22,000 German federal troops. Minister of War C.F. Hansen and other senior military figures influenced the army's leadership, but it was not until June 16 that General Bülow gained full control of the tactics. On June 21, Generalmajor de Meza sailed with 5,000 men from Als, and on June 30, Generalmajor Rye followed with 4,000 men from Helgenæs, both towards Funen to cross the Little Belt to Fredericia between 3.-5. July. Despite General Bonin's suspicions, he underestimated the number of Danish troops and the timing of the attack. The strategic war council on 4 July in Vejlby and the final meeting with Fortress Commander Lunding at Bella Vista ensured the planning of the successful outcome.
