Julianehøj | Jættestue & Historisk Monument ved Jægerspris Slot
Description:
Julianehøj is a converted giant's room at Jægerspris Castle on Zealand between Isefjord and Roskilde Fjord. It is located just outside the castle fence and is part of the Mindelunden monument park. Over time, this old giant's room has undergone extensive renovations and restorations, and at the end of the 18th century it was transformed into what we know today as Julianehøj. At the initiative of Hereditary Prince Frederik and Ove Høegh-Guldberg, the giant room was rebuilt, and it was named in honor of Queen Dowager Juliane Marie. The sculptor Johannes Wiedewelt was responsible for the transformation of the monument, which was provided with memorial stones for early Danish kings and monuments to famous Norwegians and Danes. Julianehøj and the adjacent Mindelund constitute a national cultural and historical monument and are an impressive example of pre-romantic garden art. Visit Julianehøj and immerse yourself in the past as you explore this significant place in Danish history.
