Description:
Parking: You can park on Birkevej just outside Langdysse at the entrance to Grevinge Skov. Note that there is only room for a few cars at the entrance to the path, from which you walk approx. 100 meters to Langdyssen; otherwise you have to drive in to the side.
Introduction: In Grevinge Forest, among the many remarkable monuments of the past, rests a beautiful long-dwelling from the Peasant Stone Age, known as "Hamlet's Grave", inspired by the legend of King Amled. This legendary royal name, later recognized as Hamlet in Shakespeare's famous play, bears witness to the magic and myths of the time. While the stories about King Amled's resting place stretch far and wide, reality seems to darken around these legends.
Langdyssen, at the eastern end of the forest, stretches an impressive 39 meters in length and 9 meters in width. Originally, in a bygone era, the earthen mound probably rose higher than now, carefully sealing the burial chambers in its bosom. But time has softened its embrace, and today visitors encounter only a chamber at the east end, marked by three standing bearing stones and a threshold stone that gently separates the chamber from the passage. The covering stone, which once surrounded this inner space with its protective ceiling, has disappeared, perhaps reused as building material in constructions of another era. Surrounded and honored by 53 curbstones, this dowel's proud history stands as a monument to the mysteries of the past and the unstoppable course of nature.
Geopark Odsherred: Geopark Odsherred has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List due to its unique geological and cultural historical significance. The area represents an example of Ice Age landscapes and includes the dammed Lammefjord, which has been crucial for human settlement and activity over the centuries. Odsherred's geological formations and landscapes provide a deep insight into the history of the Earth and its influence on life in the region. The placement on the UNESCO World Heritage List recognizes Geopark Odsherred's unique natural heritage and its importance as a cultural and scientific treasure trove.
