Description:
Parking: When you follow the road to Stokkebjerg Skov and the end of the road approaches, you must follow the signs to the right to find parking options at Lommestenen. After approximately 100 metres, you will reach almost down to the water, where you can park and walk the last meters down to Lommestenen. You can actually see the Pocket Stone from the parking lot. Introduction: The Pocket Stone is a large stone in Odsherred, Denmark, that has an interesting history behind it. According to an old troll legend, the stone was thrown across the Isefjord by a furious troll from Hornsherred. The troll had allegedly been disturbed by the sound of the church bells from Egebjerg Church and tried to destroy the church by throwing the stone at it. Unfortunately, the stone hit the forest, splintered trees in its path and finally landed with a crash in the Isefjord.
However, a more logical explanation for the stone's presence is linked to geological events during the Ice Age. The pocket stone is a walking rock of the "gneiss" type, which was transported by a glacier from the Scandinavian Peninsula to Odsherred. During the ice age, the stone was deposited together with gravel, sand and clay in a moraine deposit in the Isefjord. The remarkable striated and folded pattern on the stone was formed more than 450 million years ago as a result of movements in the subsurface under mountain folds.
Regardless of the real story behind the Pocket Stone, it has a mythical and fascinating presence in the area. It acts as a significant landmark in the Isefjord and attracts visitors, including anglers in search of sea trout and hornfish.
Geopark Odsherred: Geopark Odsherred has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List due to its unique geological and cultural historical significance.
