Øster Løgum Kirke | Altertavle & Mindesten for 1. Verdenskrigs faldne
Description:
The cemetery, expanded several times, is surrounded by boulder dykes and has entrances in the west and southeast. The church has a Romanesque nave and chancel with Gothic additions including a tower. The masonry shows different building materials and a former apse. The chancel has a preserved original window and a possible trace of a rectory door. The sacristy to the north has a brick fireplace and may have served as a school. The nave is extended to the west with a brick building, and the tower serves as a porch. Inside, the church is whitewashed with vaulted ceilings and frescoes from the 16th century. The furnishings include a Romanesque baptismal font, an altar table, a late Gothic altarpiece, a pulpit and an epitaph. The cemetery contains historical gravestones and a memorial stone for those who died in the First World War. Radius25 was lucky to get in and see the beautiful altarpiece. If necessary, contact the parish to be sure of access.
