Det Gammle Færgeleje | Molen - Minder & Fællesskab i Næsby
Description:
Story from Carin Brandt, island resident: MOLEN is close to my heart because I played there a lot as a child. When we (my parents, aunt, uncle and children) bought Snavevej 8 as a summer house, we arrived at that pier, rowing from Rendbæk in a German landing boat. We went from Snave Færge/fiskerleje to the house, which at the time had no number and street name. Later we got a rowing boat called MIK, built by boat builder Michélsen, who lived and built in the house on Bygaden next to the old Brugs. MIK was rolled to Næsby in the autumn and back in the spring after refurbishment. Fishermen acted as crossing guides, either by rowing or by outboard motor.
MOLEN was an important crossing point for everyone in the northern area, including those going to Skoven/Esmosen, now called Orøgård. They passed us with the package of cloves (Saturday afternoon and home Sunday afternoon). There was a car park in Rendebæk at the top of the hill. The pier was maintained by changing fishermen after the fishing stopped.
About eight years ago, Svend Erik from the ferry to Holbæk suggested that we in Næsby could help pay for materials for the repair of the pier. I sought out donations from people in Næsby, and small contributions came in, including from the substitute postwoman and my grandson. I shared this with Marianne Haugaard, who spoke with Erik Fuchs and sought funding for a large concrete truck. We got the funds and were able to repair the pier. Svend Erik and his sons, Jonny from Næsby and bicycle repairman Per, helped with the work. Unfortunately, there were problems with the outer part of the pier and the surface became too rough. We decided to repeat the process and sought support from Næsby Bylaug, who were willing to contribute again. I also communicated with Bente Mehan regarding money for the pier and she mentioned making shelters and getting support via volunteer grant. We didn't want a shelter, but Bente wanted to talk to the municipality. In the meantime, I obtained offers for concrete. Bente was replaced by Fællesskaber Mads Sorento, but my inquiries to both were not well received. My neighbour, Daniel Nørregård, was involved and was about to take over the project when a gentleman from the municipality called and offered help with concrete and tools. It was an earlier inquiry from Bente Mehan that yielded results. We were ready to go, but in the end it was decided that professionals should handle the project.
In general, we are happy with the pier. We wanted the end to be sloped like before so that kayaks and boats could be pulled up and children could get into the water more easily. Unfortunately, our request was not granted. I enjoy my early morning walks with the neighbours' dog to the tip of the pier. Thanks.
