Søndersted Stubmølle | Et Historisk Vartegn ved Holbæk Fjord
Description:
Visit Stubmøllen in Holbæk Municipality and step into the whirlwind of history. This cultural gem, Holbæk's landmark, is an iconic agricultural and cultural historical monument that proudly stands as a symbol of the mills of the past. Originally built in the early 1700s in Butterup near Tuse southwest of Holbæk, the Stubmøllen was moved to its current location in Strandparken in 1938. This beautiful mill, with its characteristic square shape and boat-shaped hat, is one of the last examples of stump mills in Denmark. Enjoy the magnificent view of Holbæk Fjord and Tuse Næs from the mill's location on the western high-lying lawn. Unfortunately, the mill has also seen darker times, such as a fire in 2017 that destroyed large parts of its internal structure. But thanks to an extensive restoration by mill builder Michael Jensen, the Stubmøllen now stands again as an impressive testament to Denmark's wind technology heritage. Take a walk in Holbæk's beautiful city park and immerse yourself in the history of the Stubmøllen and its importance as a cultural symbol for the city.
