Udstilling Ulkerup Landsby | Historie, Kvægpest & Ulkerup Sjælene
Description:
Ulkerup Landsby, founded around the year 1300, is located in the middle of Ulkerup Skov. The village was owned by the royal power, and the farmers paid annual fees for the usufruct, primarily in butter, as the town was based on cattle breeding. Between 1750 and 1760, a rinderpest hit the village hard, resulting in heavy economic losses. The town never recovered, and in 1782 the king decided to close down Ulkerup Landsby. The area covers approx. 4 ha, and today you can see remains of the Bødkerhuset, the Rytterhuset and the Skovridderen's farm.
Ulkerup Sjælene are figures created by visual artist Per Pandrup and ceramic designer Martin Nybo Jensen. Their vision was to bring the Ulkerup people back to the village from which they were expelled in the 18th century.
